The Town of Salem is a browser-based multiplayer game that requires its players to know how to whisper. The game challenges its players to lie confidently to other players, and also detect the lies these players tell. Whispering in the Town of Salem describes how players send private messages to each other within the game.
There are basically seven to 15 players in the game, with each of them randomly divided into different divisions. These divisions include Mafia, Town, Witch, Blackmailer, Godfather, Arsonists, Town Investigator, Jester, and Executioner, among others.
The task you will be required to accomplish will depend on the group to which you belong. For instance, if you belong to the Town group, you will be required to locate members of the Mafia group before they find you and kill you.
However, there is no way you can determine who is who, so you have to work out how to identify the different divisions’ members yourself.
On the other hand, if you belong to the Executioner group, you will be required to kill the residents of the town. The caveat to this is that you can only work at night.
Whispering in the Town of Salem
If you play Town of Salem, then you know how important whispering is, especially when it comes to keeping secrets safe or spilling them. Each player can whisper to one another, although they can only do so during the day.
When you whisper to another player, only the player you have whispered to will know what you have whispered. While the other players will see whom you have whispered to, they won’t know what your message is. Unfortunately, a Blackmailer, whether dead or alive, can read your whisper, so you have to be careful of these.
How Do You Whisper in The Town of Salem?
Whispering is a method through which you can send private messages to other players in the Town of Salem. The following are steps on how to whisper in this game:
- Type out any of the following commands in the main chat box: /w, /pm, or /whisper.
- Insert a space after the command.
- Input the name or number of the player you want to whisper to.
- Insert another space.
- Finally, type out the message you want to send.
Based on the above, sending a whisper in the game can follow this format:
/w PlayerName/PlayerNumber Message or /pm PlayerName/PlayerNumber Message or /whisper PlayerName/PlayerNumber Message.
For example:
- /w 5 Yeah! The Sheriff???
- /pm John Doe What do you mean?
- /whisper 7 He doesn’t realize it yet!
When playing this game, we recommend you use a player number instead of a player name as a means of identification. This will help you avoid sending your whisper to a player different from who you intended to because they share similar names. Also, you have to be cautious when you whisper lest other players become suspicious of you.
Some Tips to Note
- Remember that the players in the main chat box will see that you are sending a private message to another person. While they will only see your name and the name of the recipient of the whisper, they won’t see the content of the message.
- The Blackmailer can see the content of your whisper, regardless of whether they are alive or not. Therefore, endeavor to communicate in a way that will ensure your safety.
- Confirm the name of the player you are whispering to. Ensure you do not make any mistake with the name to avoid sending the private message to the wrong person. A great alternative will be to use the player’s number or user ID, instead of their name.
- If there is any player who disturbs you by sending you spam messages, you have the option of blocking them. This will completely remove their messages from your chat box. If such player persists in messaging, you will receive a notification for the message. However, you will not receive the message itself.
To ignore a player, do the following:
- Open the main chat box
- Input /ignore
- Insert a space
- Input the name or number of the player you want to ignore
It is worthy to note that you can’t ignore a player that is with you at the lobby. So, ensure you are away from the lobby before you attempt to ignore such players. Also, each ignore lasts for a session, hence, every player you ignore will become unignored when you log out.
Perhaps you want to unignore a player. That is also possible. And here is how you can do so:
- Open the main chat box
- Input /unignore
- Insert a space
- Input the name or number of the player you want to ignore
- Ensure you are not ignoring any player that is not a spammer as they might have important news for you.
- If you belong to the Town Investigator division, you can create a group with confirmed members of the division and seek their help to combat evil. The easiest way to confirm who is a Town member is to find out who has resurrected.
- If you are in the game as a Jester, you can whisper misinformation to other players or use false whisper techniques to confuse them. Unfortunately, you will highly likely be hunted and killed by a Jailor or an Executioner in the night.
