You will often see the characters 4G or 4G+ in the status bar on your smartphone/tablet. We’ll explain what details are hidden behind these abbreviations, and whether 4G or LTE are the exact same thing.

What does 4G and 4G+ mean?

The two characters 4G+ and E+ are similar to the abbreviations of 3G, G and E. They signify the mobile data connection.

If the “4G” icon appears in your smartphone’s bar it means you are in an area that can receive LTE, fourth-generation mobile Internet. This is the current highway for mobile Internet. Those who have booked a rate plan can surf at speeds of up to 300 megabits per se. The fastest connections can only be achieved in certain locations and cases.

These two designations have similarities and differences:

  • LTE connections are indicated by both 4G and 4G+. You will only see the abbreviations when you have an LTE-enabled device with a contract.
  • LTE speeds are not the same for all. Speeds can vary depending on where you are and what mobile provider you use.

What is the speed of 4G, 4G+, and 5G in Mbps?

  • You can reach speeds up to 150Mbps with 4G. This LTE connection has a download speed of 20.83Mbps with 4G and an upload speed of 1.48Mbps. The average response time is 54.17ms.
  • 4G+ is even faster. LTE Advanced is the most recent LTE standard. Speeds up to 450Mbps are possible here. The average download speed is 123.9Mbps, while the upload is 31Mbps. Response time is 38ms.
  • While 4G remains to be optimal for residential users and is adequate, 5G will benefit the industry, in particular. It is expected that speeds of up to 10GBit/s will be possible, which is 10x faster than 4G.

Is 4G+ more efficient than 4G?

4G+ is the faster version of 4G. 4G+ can also be called LTE A, LTE Advanced or 4.5G. This allows phones to receive data from multiple band and can combine many bands to increase speed.

Is 4G LTE+ the same thing as LTE+?

LTE+, also known as LTE A or LTE Advanced, is an enhanced version of LTE. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and is the technology behind 4G. LTE+, which stands for Long Term Evolution, is the technology behind 4G+. It is also faster than regular 4G.

Why 4G+ is slower than 4G?

4G+ allows phones and tablets to receive data from multiple band for faster speeds. However, speed may vary depending on where you live. This is most common in areas with high loads. 4G+ is used to balance bandwidth, not increase speed.

What’s 4G+ speed?

4G+ allows you to use multiple bands to receive data from your device. This can improve speed but also balance mobile band capacity to provide reliable mobile data connections.
