You might feel tempted to eat your boss soul immediately after acquiring it. These powerful souls can dramatically increase your number of souls, but you can also use them to create unique weapons.
First, upgrade your basic weapon to +10 and then use the boss soul to ascend it. There are specific weapon types you can use with each boss soul.
The Wiki has a list of weapons that can be used with each person.
Although the entire process was confusing at first, I will eventually explain how to make these weapons.
1. Upgrade your weapon to +5
Once you have selected the weapon you want to make, it is time to upgrade it to +5 status. You will need 9 Titanite Shards to accomplish this.
These shards can be purchased from Blacksmith Andre at 800 souls each. All blacksmiths can sell Titanite Shards but Andre will be the first to offer them.
It is possible that you don’t want to spend any souls on the purchase of the shards yet. If so, you can farm them instead. I prefer to farm them by killing the Balder Knights at the church near Blacksmith Andre.
To get there, the easiest way is to use the elevator from Firelink Shrine to the Church. These shards can be obtained quite easily.
Move on to the next step once your weapon has reached +5.
2. Upgrading your weapon to +10
Although it takes a few more steps to upgrade your weapon to +6, it is a simple process.
The large ember is yours
After I upgraded my weapon to +5 I discovered that the game would not allow me to upgrade to +6. This is because I hadn’t yet given the Large Ember To Andre.
You will need to go to the Depths’ kitchen to obtain the ember. Near the first butcher, you will find a chest containing the ember.
Ascend the weapon past +5
Blacksmith Andre must be notified that the ember has been added to your inventory. The upgrade screen will still not show the weapon. You can fix this by pressing the Ascend button. This will allow you to upgrade your weapon to +6.
Farm for some shards
Once you have everything in place, you can start to collect more shards. You’ll need 8 large titaniumite shards. These shards can be obtained in a variety of ways, but they both require some farming.
You can buy them first from Crestfallen Merchant in Sen’s Fortress, or Giant Blacksmith In Anor Londo. Giant Blacksmith sells them at 3,800 souls each. Crestfallen Merchant, however, sells them at 4,000.
You can also farm them from Berenike Knight. This enemy can be found on Sen’s Fortress’ rooftops. It is also close to the bonfire, which allows for quick respawning. It is worth farming them as they have a high probability of dropping Large Titanite Shards.
Upgrade the weapon to +10
Now it is time to upgrade your weapon. You are welcome to upgrade your weapon as soon as you have the shards. However, you will need to return to the blacksmith each time you upgrade.
To fully upgrade your weapon, you will need many souls. So keep an eye out for souls that you have acquired along the way. You can also eat boss souls that you don’t intend to use. Just make sure to keep the ones that you love.
3. Ascend to a boss weapon
It’s now time to move on to the most difficult step: ascending your boss weapon. This is where your boss weapon transforms from a base weapon to a powerful one.
Visit the Giant Blacksmith at Anor Londo to do this. You will see your weapon in the list if you choose the ascend option. You can climb your weapon for the price of a boss soul or 5,000 souls.
4. Your boss’s weapon can be upgraded
Now it is time to upgrade your boss weapon. This weapon can be upgraded using 10 Demon Titanite. Although this type of titanite can be more difficult than the others, there are still ways to obtain it.
Farming the Titanite Demon of Lost Izalith is the best way to obtain large amounts. Two titanite can be obtained from the Titanite Demon of Anor Londo. However, he does not respawn.
You will get 2 Demon Titanites for every kill of the one in Lost Izalith. They are very difficult enemies to defeat so low-level characters will likely have difficulty farming them.
You can also trade with Snuggly to obtain Demon Titanite. You can trade 1 Demon Titanite by trading Prism Stones or Dung Pies.
A room in Anor Londo can also house two. The room is home to 3 Silver Knights who are watching over the chest containing titanite.
These weapons are worth the effort?
It really depends on your motivations and personal preferences as to whether these weapons are worth it. Some people find the boss weapons to be amazing, while others simply want them to add to their collection.
Dark Souls allows you to use any weapon that you like. You should use a boss weapon if you like its look and feel.
Some weapons are extremely powerful, like the Dragonslayer Spear which launches lightning bolts. They have more powerful attacks than other weapons, but they are still very useful.
Many Dark Souls players don’t consider boss weapons worth the effort because it can take a while to get all the materials. Before you start creating the weapon, do some research. This will ensure that you are not disappointed if the weapon isn’t as impressive as you thought.
The souls can be consumed at any time
You can always use the boss weapons to increase your soul count if you don’t like any of these boss weapons. These weapons can give you anywhere from 1200 to 20,000 souls.
You can consume many of these simultaneously to gain thousands of souls that you can use for leveling up. Sometimes, you will get more benefits than the boss weapons.
If you don’t plan to use any boss weapons, this is your best choice. They are something I enjoy eating more than others. The increase in level can make you more successful and takes less time than farming for a few tons of titanite.
Conclusion
Boss souls can be used to make weapons or you can consume them. While creating boss weapons is possible with them, it’s the easiest way to consume them.
It can be difficult to farm, especially when you want the Demon Titanite. It is worth farming if you know the weapon you want to farm is one of the best.
